The New Town of Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has established a dedicated support camp aimed at assisting property taxpayers in the New Town area. This initiative particularly targets elderly residents and individuals encountering difficulties in the processes of assessing, registering, and paying property taxes.
In addition to NKDA's efforts, the Nabadiganta Industrial Municipality Authority (NDITA) has reached out to all companies situated in Sector V that have yet to settle their property taxes, reminding them to complete their payments by March 31.
Recently, both NDITA and NKDA authorities conducted a review of the property tax collection status in Sector V and New Town. Officials discovered that property tax receipts in both regions were notably lower than those recorded during the same timeframe in the previous fiscal year.
The ongoing Covid pandemic appears to be a significant factor contributing to this decline, as many IT companies continue to operate remotely from home.
A special property tax camp was launched in New Town last week and is scheduled to run until March 31. Located on the ground floor of the utility building adjacent to Tank No. 3, this camp serves as an enhancement of the existing one, aimed at assisting more taxpayers. It is designed to facilitate the assessment, filing, and payment of property taxes for the local community.
Moreover, authorities have introduced a tax assistance helpline (033-2324-2127) for individuals facing challenges when filing their property taxes. This helpline operates from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. NKDA has also introduced a program called “Tax Sathis” specifically for the convenience of elderly citizens.
As of March 17, NKDA reported collecting approximately Rs 31 crore this fiscal year, a decrease from the Rs 43 crores collected during the same period last year. Meanwhile, NDITA's records indicate that they have raised around Rs 47 crores, in contrast to the Rs 65 crores collected the previous year.
