Chandigarh Estate Office Plans Monthly E-Auctions to Monetise Nearly 1,000 Vacant Government Properties

Chandigarh Estate Office Plans Monthly E-Auctions to Monetise Nearly 1,000 Vacant Government PropertiesThe Chandigarh estate office has shortlisted about 25 properties for auction by April-end and plans to monetise nearly 1,000 vacant government properties in 2026-27, targeting over ₹1,000 crore, ETRealty reported in April 2026.

What is on offer

The inventory includes around 130 residential sites, 205 commercial sites, 168 industrial sites, five nursing-home sites and one institutional site, the report said. The Indian Express reported in September 2026 that the Deputy Commissioner had announced 134 vacant residential plots, ranging from one marla (25 sq yards) to one acre.

The first batch of about 25 residential, commercial and institutional properties is mostly residential. These will be offered on a freehold basis, according to ETRealty.

Targets and schedule

The estate office aims to raise ₹200-250 crore in the first quarter of 2026-27 and more than ₹1,000 crore over the year, the report said. It plans monthly e-auctions, but the schedule for the new financial year was awaiting approval at the time of the report.

The office is checking shortlisted properties for encumbrances. ETRealty said the auctions will depend on market response.

The administration says regular auctions will help prevent illegal occupation, make better use of government land and buildings, and raise revenue from vacant properties, the report said.
