Private Equity Investments in India Surge 58% in February 2012
February 2012 witnessed a significant increase in private equity (PE) investments in Indian companies. The total investment value reached $922.7 million across 51 deals, marking a 58% rise compared to the $583.8 million invested across 24 deals during the same month in the previous year.
Average Deal Size Declines Amidst Numerous Smaller Transactions
Despite the surge in overall investment, the average deal size experienced a decline. It fell to $23.1 million from $38.9 million in February 2011. This reduction can be attributed to the high volume of smaller-value deals that characterized February 2012.
Real Estate and BFSI Sectors Dominate Investments
During February 2012, the real estate sector emerged as the frontrunner, attracting a substantial 36.6% of the total PE investments. Trailing closely behind was the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector, commanding a 23.6% share of the investments.
