Goa Property Show Sparks Controversy as Designer Rodricks Voices Concerns

The "Exclusive Goa Property Show" in New Delhi, organized by Times Business Solutions Ltd, a Times of India Group venture, has ignited controversy. Internationally acclaimed Goan fashion designer Wendell Rodricks declined the invitation to open the show, expressing his concerns about the potential negative impact on Goa's unique identity.

This "Premium Real Estate event," as described by the organizers, aimed to bring together buyers and sellers for prime Goan properties. However, Rodricks held a press conference at Azad Maidan on March 7th to voice his alarm. I implore Goan developers to prioritize sustainable development that supports the tourism sector, not just monetary gains, he urged.

Rodricks Questions Goa's Development Strategy

Rodricks further challenged the government to define Goa's Unique Selling Point (USP). What makes Goa special? he asked. He emphasized the need for the government to protect Goa's identity from those who might compromise it for profit, particularly regarding development on the green hills.

"Sell Goa" Fair Raises Concerns about Land Ownership

With around 60 developers invited to participate in what Rodricks termed a "Sell Goa" fair, he questioned the implications of outsiders selling Goan land. This is our land, he declared, raising concerns about the control and direction of Goa's development.

This incident highlights the ongoing tension between economic development and preserving Goa's unique character, a debate that continues to resonate with locals and stakeholders alike.
