The CII Indian Green Building Council launched its 32nd chapter in Ranchi on September 6, 2025. This event, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, brought together government officials, industry leaders, and developers to promote sustainable construction practices across the state. This marks the first IGBC chapter in Jharkhand, setting the stage for transformative growth in eco-friendly development.
Government Backing Green Infrastructure
Shri Sunil Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary of Urban Development & Housing Department, attended as the chief guest and pledged substantial support. He committed to converting government buildings into IGBC-certified facilities. The state's developers will bring affordable housing projects under green building frameworks. "Jharkhand's urban growth must be sustainable and climate-resilient," Kumar emphasised during his address. His department will create enabling policies that encourage innovative construction materials and technologies while prioritising citizen well-being.
Leadership Driving Change
Architect Rajiv Chaddha takes the helm as Chairman, with Piyush More from Panchratna Group serving as Co-Chairman. IGBC Vice-President C. Shekar Reddy described the chapter as crucial to India's net-zero building campaign. "Jharkhand's real estate holds immense potential for sustainable development," Reddy noted. More emphasised that green construction means creating more value with fewer resources, positioning the chapter as both a support system and an innovation hub for stakeholders.
Transforming Real Estate Landscape
The chapter aims to unite builders, developers, and architects around energy-efficient construction. Green certification will become accessible to residential and commercial projects throughout the state. Developers can now access technical guidance on low-carbon materials and sustainable design practices. This initiative positions Ranchi as an emerging hub for eco-friendly real estate development.
With 31 green rating systems already operational nationwide, IGBC brings proven expertise to Jharkhand's property market. The council's presence will accelerate the adoption of green standards across housing, commercial spaces, and infrastructure projects. Industry stakeholders view this as both an environmental necessity and a strategic business opportunity that will reshape how buildings are conceived and constructed in the region.
