The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has taken over a luxury hotel in Kajamalai, Tiruchirappalli, and plans to upgrade the property, according to reports.
The hotel is Trichy SRM Hotel. PropertyWala reported in April 2026 that TTDC took control of the property on October 22, 2025. The takeover is contested. Senior advocate Syed Ahmed Saud has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court against what he describes as a forcible seizure, as we reported earlier.
What the challenge says
The petition says TTDC took control despite pending cases and a ₹7 crore deposit made under a Madurai High Court order. It seeks clarity on payment and invokes Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution. The outcome of the review petition is not yet known.
TTDC has not published the upgrade’s cost, timeline or scope in the material reviewed. Details such as the room count, operator and tender process have not been made public.
Why it matters for property in Trichy
The upgrade puts a state agency in charge of a large hospitality asset in the city. For commercial property investors, it signals activity in Trichy’s tourism and hotel segment. Hotel companies are acquiring land and development rights across India as demand for rooms outpaces supply, Mint reported in September 2026. It cited Hotelivate-Savills data showing average daily rates up 7.5% and occupancy up 6% in FY26 nationwide. The report did not cover Trichy.
The neighbourhood
Khajamalai is about 4 km from Tiruchirapalli International Airport and about 3 km from Tiruchchirappalli Junction. Anna Stadium, Varshini Hospitals and a CBSE school are within about 1 km. Courtyard by Marriott is about 5 km away. PropertyWala’s page for the locality lists no homes for sale at present, so no asking rate is quoted here.
The locality is characterised by residential plots and independent houses in gated layouts. Nearby, Edamalaipatti Pudur has listings. Asian News International reported in April 2026 that DMK candidate KN Nehru cited ₹2,000 crore of works there, including roads, flood-risk reduction and an IT park.
What to watch next
The Supreme Court’s handling of the review petition will determine how freely TTDC can proceed. Any announcement of a budget, tender or operator for the upgrade will indicate the project’s scale. Readers can follow the wider Tiruchirappalli market on PropertyWala.
