Kolkata's Salarpuria Group, a prominent real estate developer, has announced ambitious plans to execute projects amounting to a staggering Rs 1,000 crore in West Bengal by the end of 2010. Mr. Rakesh Salarpuria, who serves as the vice chairman of the group, revealed that among the expansion initiatives is the establishment of a Novotel Hotel, in partnership with the well-known international hospitality leader, Accor Group, situated in the vibrant area of Rajarhat. The estimated investment for this hotel project is projected to be around Rs 200 crore. Additionally, the company is channeling resources into two IT-specific special economic zones (SEZs) — one located in Bantala, about 20km south-east of Kolkata, and the other in Kalyani, situated 40km north-west of the city. Mr. Salarpuria accentuated that the company has secured an in-principle approval for the SEZ ventures from the Central government. Specifically, the Kalyani SEZ is planned to cover an expansive area of 250 acres. While the investment required for land acquisition for the Kalyani project remains undisclosed, it is noted that the Bantala SEZ, which is to extend over 40 acres, will demand close to Rs 400 crore in investment. He also mentioned that construction work is scheduled to commence within a span of six months.
