NHAI Revives 10.3-km Madhavaram-Nallur Elevated Corridor
The New Indian Express · · Infrastructure
NHAI will proceed with a 10.3-km elevated corridor from Madhavaram to Nallur on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway, subject to financing and approvals.
Key facts
NHAI has agreed to revive its 2019 proposal for a 10.3-km, six-lane elevated corridor from the Madhavaram-Chennai Bypass junction to the Outer Ring Road near Nallur toll plaza on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway. It withdrew its earlier proposal to transfer the stretch to Tamil Nadu’s state highways.
The project is subject to waiver of the state component of GST on construction materials. Financing, an updated detailed project report (DPR), clearances and approvals are pending. The state government has assured cooperation on stormwater drains, land acquisition and removing encroachments.
The stretch carries about 95,000 passenger car units daily; the existing four-lane section takes motorists 75 to 90 minutes to travel 10 km and has 11 major and minor junctions. A 2010 proposal to widen it to six lanes was dropped in 2013 over resistance to removing encroachments, utility shifting and land acquisition. The remaining 33-km stretch from Nallur to the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border was widened to six lanes.
Chennai Outer Ring Road Links Logistics Hubs and Growth Areas
99 Acres · · Infrastructure
Chennai’s 62-km Outer Ring Road connects northern logistics and port zones with southern areas, while warehousing investments support its industrial growth.
Key facts
Developed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, the 62-km, six-lane, access-controlled Outer Ring Road runs from Minjur to Vandalur/Perungalathur. CTH Road/NH-205 at Nemilichery connects to Avadi, Pattabiram, Tiruvallur and the Tirupati direction. NH-16/GNT Road at Red Hills–Nallur and Minjur provides access to northern logistics and port zones, including Ennore and north Andhra routes; Chennai and Ennore ports are reachable via GNT Road and radial links from Red Hills and Minjur.
Blackstone-backed platforms, IndoSpace and ESR Group have invested in large-format logistics parks along the corridor. Around 36 acres across Morai, Karungaracheri and Minjur have been earmarked for specialised warehousing. The corridor’s investment potential is also associated with industrial hubs in Sriperumbudur, upcoming Metro Phase 2 and Fintech City.
