Drone Survey Begins in Murungapakkam to Update Land Records

thehindu · · Regulatory

Puducherry has begun a pilot drone survey in Murungapakkam to map land parcels, update ownership records and prepare property tax records.

Key facts

Puducherry began a pilot drone survey of all land in Murungapakkam Revenue Village on March 18 under NAKSHA (National geospatial Knowledge-based land Survey of Urban Habitations), part of the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy launched the programme in February. The survey follows the Union Territory’s order for a technology-led land resurvey and a Revenue Department memorandum of understanding with the Survey of India. MLAs R. Baskar and L. Sampath launched the survey operation.

An orthorectified image will be used to create a digital map with land survey numbers and revenue-record attributes, update owners’ names in the revenue register and prepare Field Measurement Books using Real Time Kinematics and Electronic Total Station tools. Landowners may appeal map objections, which will be settled according to law. Revenue and Pondicherry Municipality officials will conduct the resurvey collaboratively and ask landowners to submit documents. Property tax records will also be prepared.
