NTPC's Mouda Thermal Power Plant in Nagpur activated Flue Gas Desulphurisation technology on one chimney, with all four expected operational by mid-2026.

Key facts

NTPC Mouda Thermal Power Plant activated Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) system, diverting flue gases through separate channel where limestone is injected. Limestone reacts with sulphur dioxide, converting it into harmless vapour. Process produces gypsum byproduct supplied to cement manufacturers. One of four chimneys now emitting steam instead of smoke. All four chimneys expected to have FGD operational by mid-2026. Plant being developed into Green Energy Hub for Vidarbha as part of NTPC's transition from coal-based to balanced energy portfolio.
