Illegal vehicle-scrapping units have resumed operations in Mayapuri Industrial Area Phase II, encroaching on roads and raising safety and pollution concerns.

Mayapuri Industrial Area Phase II, Delhi’s largest scrap market, has seen illegal vehicle dismantling resume despite units being shut down in 2019 on National Green Tribunal orders. The NGT had taken cognisance of a 2018 Times of India report. Dismantled vehicle parts and scrap are stored on roads, causing encroachments and traffic snarls. Vehicles are dismantled in violation of safety and environmental norms.
