Nagpur Plans ₹856 Crore Flood Works Across Rivers and Nullahs

Nagpur has proposed ₹856.31 crore in retaining walls and bridge works to reduce flooding risks across 29.651 km of river and nullah banks.

Key facts

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) identified 29.651 km of missing or damaged retaining walls and prepared a ₹856.31 crore Detailed Project Report for walls and four bridges. The funding proposal has been submitted to the state urban development department.

Nag River: reconstruct 2.84 km of retaining walls and rebuild two bridges.
Pili River: build 12.26 km of walls and rebuild one bridge; nearly 90% of the river currently has no retaining wall.
Pora River: build 7.387 km of walls; add 2.604 km along connected nullahs and rebuild one bridge.
Chambhar Nullah: reconstruct nearly 900 metres of damaged wall.

Flooding affects residents of Welcome Society, New Ahbab Colony, Mahesh Nagar, Suraj Nagar, Sangam Nagar and Godavari Colony. Nagpur’s drainage network includes the 16.58-km Nag River, 17.42-km Pili River, 15.17-km Pora River and 227 nullahs. Residents report floodwater entering homes and submerging roads during heavy rain.
