Tiruppur City Municipal Corporation has suspended property reassessments for tax revision at councillors’ request, pending state government guidance. Mayor N Dinesh Kumar said approximately 2.7 lakh properties fall under the corporation’s tax ambit, and 4,197 have been reassessed. Their property tax increased by 1.5%; owners had paid the same amount for a long time. The annual 6% property tax increase, common across Tamil Nadu, will still be levied. The mayor said the corporation would pass a resolution after receiving government guidance. Tiruppur MP K Subbarayan, South MLA K Selvaraj and others petitioned the chief minister to cancel the hike; the state said it would reconsider it. AIADMK councillors led by R Anbagam Thirupathi and BJP councillor R Gunasekaran walked out demanding cancellation.

Tiruppur city police plan to make Avinashi Road one-way between Pushpa Junction and the Police Commissioner’s Office junction. Vehicles travelling from Avinashi to Tiruppur would turn left onto 60-feet Road and continue via Perumanallur Road to Pushpa Junction; traffic towards Avinashi would remain unchanged. Police sought public feedback.

Residents and business representatives objected, citing existing congestion on 60-feet and Perumanallur roads. Textile manufacturer and exporter Arunachalam Rakkiappan urged police to divert heavy vehicles but allow two-wheelers, warning that riders would otherwise travel several kilometres to reach shops in Kumar Nagar. S Chandrasekar said the diversion was unnecessary. TEAMA president MP Muthurathinam noted two fabric markets and thousands of workers and their families depend on Perumanallur Road; he urged removal of encroachments on scheme roads and connections to main roads.

Police Commissioner S Rajendran said signals at Bungalow Stop, Kumar Nagar and the Police Commissioner’s Office junction would be removed. Police would trial the plan after considering feedback and withdraw it if traffic did not flow smoothly.

Over 100 parents staged a road blockade in front of the city police commissioner's office on Wednesday against converting Angeripalayam road into a one-way. Angeripalayam road diverges from the City Police Commissioner's office junction on Avinashi Road. A government-aided higher secondary school and a private matriculation higher secondary school are located on this road, which also provides access to residential areas. Traffic police planned to convert it to one-way with vehicles only plying from Kumar Nagar to Angeripalayam, diverting Kumar Nagar-bound traffic to SAP Junction. Trial run commenced Monday. Parents alleged the change causes inconvenience bringing children to schools, staging the blockade Wednesday morning and affecting Avinashi Road traffic. Protestors said the alternate route through SAP Junction to Avinashi Road is narrow and causes traffic snarls. Following talks with police, vehicles were allowed as usual during peak morning and evening rush hours. Police said this is a temporary solution pending further consultation.
