Uttar Pradesh has sanctioned ₹244 crore for infrastructure upgrades and land acquisition at the Jhansi node of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), amid rising investor demand. Bharat Dynamics Limited plans a major missile production unit; private defence firms and startups also have projects in the pipeline. The Bundelkhand Expressway has improved connectivity.

UPDIC’s six nodes are Kanpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Agra and Chitrakoot. The corridor has attracted over ₹35,500 crore in investment proposals, and 977.54 hectares have been allotted to defence and allied manufacturing units. The state is exploring land acquisition in districts adjoining the nodes and further expansion in Bundelkhand, aiming to build manufacturing, R&D and export capacity, generate employment and boost MSMEs.

Kanpur’s node is expanding after 100% occupancy in its first phase. It has over ₹12,800 crore in investments and produces ammunition, weapons and military clothing, including at a ₹1,500 crore Adani ammunition plant. More than 218 hectares in Narwal tehsil is under development, with additional land planned. Adani Defence Systems is operational and plans major expansion; other projects include Genser Aerospace and Anant Technologies.
