Delhi Launches ₹64.04-Crore Nangloi-Najafgarh Road Overhaul

thehindu · · Infrastructure

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena launched a ₹64.04-crore road and drainage project to ease congestion in West Delhi.

Key facts

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena laid the foundation stone for a ₹64.04-crore repair and upgrade project along the Nangloi-Najafgarh road on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. The project includes new stormwater drains, upgrades to existing drains, road strengthening and reconstruction, and crash barriers along the central verge. It aims to improve drainage and road conditions, ease traffic bottlenecks and reduce monsoon waterlogging.

Saxena said he inspected Mundka, Nangloi, Kanjhawala, Phirni Road and Rohtak Road in September 2024 and found damaged roads, potholes and sewage flowing on roads. Public Works Department Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh said tendering was completed and work had begun. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said conditions had been poor for 11 years.

Kanjhawala-Karala Drain Construction to Begin on December 9

Indiatimes · · Infrastructure

Delhi government will start a ₹22.16 crore drain project on December 9 to reduce chronic waterlogging along the Kanjhawala-Karala corridor in northwest Delhi.

Key facts

Delhi government will begin construction of the Kanjhawala-Karala drain on December 9, at an estimated cost of ₹22.16 crore, to address chronic monsoon waterlogging in northwest Delhi. The drain begins in Jain Nagar, runs to Kanjhawala Chowk and connects to the Mungeshpur drain. Guru Golwalkar Marg (Road No. 3), linking Karala and Kanjhawala, is a major waterlogging hotspot; the existing stormwater channel is inadequate, contributing to traffic disruption and road damage. PWD minister Parvesh Verma is likely to lay the foundation stone on December 9. The work is the first significant upgrade under Delhi’s drainage-network overhaul.
