Two labourers died earlier this month when a dilapidated overhead water tank collapsed behind Kotwali police station, prompting residents and local representatives to demand urgent safety audits of ageing and abandoned tanks. Residents report visible deterioration in Bahu Bazaar, Doranda, Dhurwa, Hindpiri and Hinoo. Rajesh Kumar of Kusai Colony in Doranda said people avoid passing near an old tank during storms and that large chunks of concrete have fallen from it.

Residents in Ranchi localities including Lalpur, Namkum, Bahubazar, Kokar, Hindpiri, Tharpakna and Kanke are grappling with worsening roads riddled with potholes and craters.
