₹58-Crore Stormwater Project to Make Ambala Cantonment Open-Drain Free
Hindustan Times · · Infrastructure
Anil Vij launched a ₹58-crore stormwater pipeline project covering several Ambala Cantonment areas, with further drainage and flood-control works planned.
Key facts
Haryana minister Anil Vij launched a ₹58-crore stormwater pipeline project from Ekta Vihar to make Ambala Cantonment free of open drains. It will cover Lal Kurti, BC Bazaar, Outer Large Road and Ekta Vihar, with pipelines running from Govind Nagar on Jagadhri Road towards the Saharanpur railway line and Tangri embankment. A next phase will extend pipelines from Jagadhri Road towards Defence Colony.
Vij directed public health department executive engineer Harbhajan Singh to form three or four teams to work simultaneously and correct existing drain levels in Ekta Vihar before laying pipelines. Residents may need to remove platforms or other structures outside some homes.
A ₹65-crore drainage project in old Sadar was previously completed, helping address monsoon waterlogging and problems from flies and mosquitoes. An eight-kilometre embankment along the Tangri river has been connected to GT Road. Underpasses and overbridges have replaced four railway crossings; the Machhonda overbridge remains incomplete.
