UPPCL Disconnects 3,000 Illegal Connections in Chhajarsi Colony

UPPCL dismantled an illegal electricity network in Chhajarsi Colony, disconnecting about 3,000 connections and seizing 10 transformers and 300 metres of wire.

- Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) disconnected about 3,000 unauthorised electricity connections in the Hindon floodplain area of Chhajarsi Colony, Sector 63, Noida.
- Teams seized 10 illegally installed distribution transformers and nearly 300 metres of 11-kV wire during a drive on a high-loss feeder.
- Officials identified 19 people for alleged illegal electricity consumption or unauthorised distribution. FIRs will be registered against all 19 at the Anti-Power Theft police station in Sector 63 under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003.
- A separate complaint was submitted over allegations that people collected money from locals for providing electricity.
- UPPCL said the network posed public-safety risks. The drive is part of enforcement efforts in high-loss areas of Gautam Budh Nagar to reduce aggregate technical and commercial losses and curb power theft. Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited Noida zone chief engineer Sanjay Jain said similar surprise drives would continue. Residents were urged to use valid connections and utility-installed meters.
