₹14 Crore Berry Centre Planned in Chhachhrauli, Yamunanagar

The Tribune · · Industry

A ₹14 crore Centre of Excellence for Berries is planned in Chhachhrauli to support cultivation, training and marketing for growers across the region.

Key facts

A Centre of Excellence for Berries, estimated to cost ₹14 crore, will be developed at the Government Orchard and Nursery in Chhachhrauli, Yamunanagar district. It will serve growers in Yamunanagar and neighbouring districts and support blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, blackberry and other berry crops suited to local conditions.

The facility will include a high-tech nursery, mother plant block, demonstration plots, training facilities and modern irrigation systems. It will provide certified, disease-free planting material, technical guidance and training from seedling production through harvesting, grading, packaging and marketing, aiming to reduce reliance on plants bought from outside Haryana and lower production costs.

Yamunanagar has around 150 acres under strawberry cultivation, with the largest areas in Chhachhrauli and Pratap Nagar. Commonly cultivated varieties include Sweet Charlie, Winter Dawn, Camarosa, Festival, Florida Beauty and Winter Star. Officials expect the centre to boost productivity, farmer incomes and horticulture-related employment.
