Farmers in Yelahanka taluk have opposed land acquisition for the proposed Bettahalasur–Rajanukunte railway project. Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) leaders demanded that it be dropped, saying it would harm livelihoods and the local ecosystem. KRRS general secretary BG Nanjundappa said small and marginal farmers in Singanayakanahalli, Thimmasandra, Bettahalasur and nearby villages had protested the acquisition. Revised government gazette notifications for acquisition in several villages, including Bettahalasur and Rajakunte, were issued in December; notices cover fertile agricultural land.

Nanjundappa said the project was unscientific and of little public use, and could destroy trees and mango, guava and pomegranate plantations. He said Rajanakunte is 6 km from Yelahanka railway junction and urged the Railways to prioritise pending Chikkaballapur–Gauribidanur and Sathya Sai Nilayam–Chikkaballapur projects, and build railway underpasses and overpasses. Existing underpasses at Bettahalasur, Shettigere, Channahalli, Chikkasanne, IVC Road and Kodi Manchenahalli, he said, do not help villagers and farmers.

Farmer leaders from Bettahalasur village submitted a memorandum to Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje on Saturday, urging the government to sanction a metro station and include Bettahalasuru in the Namma Metro route plan. The delegation was led by MLC Gopinath Reddy and included Karnataka State Farmers’ Association Bettahalasuru Secretary Nanjundappa, senior leader Shivraj and other local farmers. Nanjundappa said a station would benefit over 1.5 lakh residents in nearby villages, including students and employees commuting to Bengaluru and surrounding areas. Farmer leaders Shivraj Hiriyal and Benki Narayana warned they would launch an intense agitation if the demand was not met.

BDA Orders Withdrawal of Occupancy Certificates for 86 Villas

The Bettahalasur gram panchayat withdrew on February 14 an occupancy certificate it had issued on January 10, 2024, for 86 villas at After The Rain in Bengaluru North. BDA directed the withdrawal, saying it was the competent authority for approvals in the area; the panchayat’s February 3 meeting approved the action. BDA acted after complaints from homebuyers. An official said the authority had earlier issued partial occupancy certificates for some villas and that obtaining bank loans is difficult without an OC.

Total Environment Building Systems Private Limited is developing 240 villas at the project. Its RERA submission set a June 30, 2019 handover deadline, later extended three times, with April 30, 2022 as the final deadline. The builder had made two unsuccessful attempts to obtain the OC from BDA before securing it from the panchayat.
