State urban development and municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul proposed a ring road around Kolkata to help commuters travelling between Howrah or beyond and North or South 24 Parganas bypass congestion. The proposal is part of her six-month action plan to revamp Kolkata and other cities. The route is yet to be finalised. A PWD official said a new Hooghly bridge could connect Budge Budge and Maheshtala to Garden Reach, Diamond Harbour Road, Amtala, Sonarpur, Baruipur, Basanti Highway, Taki Road, Basirhat, Kalyani Expressway, Belgharia Expressway, Nivedita Setu, Dankuni (NH2) and Panchla (NH16). Paul’s department is also focusing on development, beautification, modernisation, waste management and revenue augmentation. The feed description also mentions stricter anti-litter laws, waste segregation and measures against waterlogging.
