Rough Seas Erode Puri Coast, Washing Away Vendor’s Shop
Pragativadi · · Infrastructure
High tides collapsed a nearly one-kilometre sandbank between Baliapanda and Mangala Muhana, eroding the Puri shoreline and washing away a roadside vendor’s shop.
Key facts
Strong waves and high tides battered the Puri coast on Saturday morning, causing severe erosion. Along the stretch from Baliapanda toward Mangala Muhana, a sandbank nearly one kilometre long collapsed. Waves measuring two to three feet eroded sandbanks about three feet high and washed away a temporary roadside shop operated by a local vendor. Fishermen at Mangala Muhana monitored rising water and the unstable shoreline to protect their boats and gear. Authorities urged residents, tourists and fishermen to stay away from the water’s edge. Administrative teams and lifeguards are monitoring vulnerable coastal stretches.
