PMC to build 15 MW waste to energy plant at Ramchak Bairiya

Patna Municipal Corporation will develop a 15 MW waste-to-energy facility at Ramchak Bairiya with 12 civic bodies, operational by 2028.

The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will sign MoUs with 12 urban local bodies (ULBs) to develop a 15 MW waste to energy (WtE) plant at Ramchak Bairiya as part of an integrated solid waste management initiative.

Participating civic bodies: Danapur Nizamat, Phulwarisharif, Masaurhi, Sampatchak, Fatuha, Khagaul, Bihta, Bakhtiyarpur, Maner, Naubatpur municipal bodies, plus Punpun and Khusrupur Nagar Panchayats.

Each civic body will collect and transport municipal solid waste from its jurisdiction to the facility using its own resources.

The integrated facility will be developed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model using a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) framework. The complex will include: 15 MW waste to energy plant, bio methanation plant, Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and composting facility.

PMC designated as nodal agency by Urban Development and Housing Department to coordinate and oversee implementation.

Project expected to be completed within two years and become operational by 2028. The combination of waste processing, material recovery, composting and energy generation is expected to reduce landfill waste volume while improving resource recovery.
