Four-lane road over Rajiv Nagar-Kurji drain construction begins

Indiatimes · · Infrastructure

Construction starts on a 4.26 km, four-lane road project over Rajiv Nagar-Kurji drain in Patna, benefiting over 200,000 people.

Key facts

Construction work for the four-lane road project over the Rajiv Nagar-Kurji drain in Patna has started from the Ashiana-Digha Road side. The drain runs from Ashiana-Digha Road to Atal Path. The approximately 4.26 km long road will directly benefit a population of more than 2 lakh people.

Currently, a single-lane road beside the drain often remains jammed. Under this project, a box drain will be built using central load-bearing technology, with a four-lane road constructed on top for uninterrupted traffic. The average width of the road will be around 24 meters.

Project details:

  • Executed by Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (Buidco)
  • Dewatering of the drain started Wednesday from the Ashiana-Digha Road side
  • Construction phases: base construction, raft formation, wall construction on both sides, slab placement, then four-lane road development
  • Estimated cost: Rs 180.9 crore; agreement signed at lower bid of Rs 149.5 crore
  • Foundation stone laid by CM Nitish Kumar in August
  • Project completion tenure: two years
CM inspects Kurji and Anandpuri drainage projects in Patna

Hindustan Times · · Infrastructure

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inspected two major drainage projects in Patna and directed officials to expedite completion to eliminate waterlogging and improve traffic.

Key facts

CM Nitish Kumar inspected construction on the Kurji Nala (Rajiv Nagar Nala) along Ashiana-Digha road and Anandpuri Nala, directing officials to expedite work.

Kurji Nala stretches 4.26 km from Ashiana-Digha Road to Kurji drainage pumping station. Anandpuri Nala is approximately 4 km long, running from Baba Chowk past Atal Path and AN College to Rajapur Pul drainage pumping station.

Both projects involve concrete lining of open drains and construction of two-lane roads on top. The CM stated the projects will eliminate waterlogging in surrounding areas, improve commuting, and contribute to cleaner urban landscape.

Kumar recalled inspecting both drains during Pragati Yatra on February 21, 2025, when locals highlighted waterlogging issues. He directed that drains be properly repaired and roads built over them.

Patna has experienced severe monsoon waterlogging, with low-lying residential colonies along these drains among the worst affected. The projects are part of broader efforts to strengthen the city's drainage network and reduce inundation in densely populated neighbourhoods.
