Tamil Nadu Highways has begun ₹1.4 crore junction upgrades and road widening at two busy intersections on Madurai’s Alagar Kovil Main Road.

Tamil Nadu’s State Highways department has begun junction improvements, including road widening, at Lotus Tank Junction and Fortune Pandiyan Hotel Junction on Alagar Kovil Main Road, Madurai. The ₹1.4 crore project aims to ease congestion at the two busy junctions, which are within 500 metres of each other. Roundabouts are planned at both locations, and pavements will be narrowed. The existing 60-foot-wide road will be expanded to an average of 70–80 feet, complementing the city corporation’s ongoing Race Course Road widening. Fortune Pandiyan Hotel Junction improvements are estimated at ₹60 lakh and Lotus Tank Junction upgrades at about ₹80 lakh.

TTDC organised Samuthuva Pongal celebrations at its newly acquired 5.90-acre property on Alagar Kovil Road in Madurai, with domestic and foreign tourists staying there participating. The Tamil Nadu government tourism department joined the celebrations. TTDC took over operations of a private hotel on the road and rebranded it as Hotel Tamil Nadu Unit-3 from January 15. Tourism officials said the takeover would improve services at a key tourist location and use the property for visitors to Madurai.
