Calangute beach is world famous. It is the hippies who made it famous in the sixties,which put it on the world map as destination for fun and frolic. It has over the years attracted tourists mainly from the EU and the scandinavian countries,with a sampling from Asia,South America and Africa. It is mainly due to the influx of these tourists that the infrastructure in Calangute has improved tremendously.It is no more a sleepy fishing village that it was once,thanks to these tourists and influx from other parts of India. The Portuguese influence is still strong here;by that I mean is that one can walk down the paved roads bare-chested(males) or in see through clothing and the locals will not even bat an eye.It is the only place in India that you can drink alcohol in public as long one does not create any law and order nuisance. It is builder/investment dream come true, and I know of no one in my 15 years residency hear who a lost out on his investments.
