Sadar Flyover Realignment Cost Rises To ₹82 Crore

MahaMetro has begun acquiring 3,117sqm for Nagpur’s Sadar flyover realignment, whose revised cost has risen from ₹34 crore to ₹82 crore.

MahaMetro has sought acquisition of 3,117sqm for the realignment: 2,863sqm of government land, including parts of Kasturchand Park and Vasantrao Naik Government Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, and 264sqm belonging to a petrol pump at RBI Square. The revised cost is ₹82 crore, up from the sanctioned ₹34 crore, and awaits approval; statutory clearances are also pending.

The 3.96-km Y-shaped flyover, built by NHAI for ₹219 crore and inaugurated in January 2020, is being redesigned after Union minister Nitin Gadkari criticised its landing last year. The approximately 850-metre new alignment will run from Liberty Talkies past the NIT building and LIC Square, beneath the Metro viaduct, through Kasturchand Park and across RBI Square, descending beyond the petrol pump on Morris College Road. Its 270-metre elevated section through the park will have three piers. The Mankapur-side entry and existing landing will remain; traffic from Katol Road and Chhindwara Road will use the new landing. Pending construction, traffic from RBI Square to LIC Square is diverted via Residency Road and a U-turn near the NIT office. Civil works are expected after approvals.
