Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the Indore-Pithampur Economic Corridor will infuse new energy into the state's economy and transform Indore into a Central Growth Hub.

The High Court of Madhya Pradesh ruled that units in Pithampur industrial investment area need not pay property tax to the local urban body. The decision favoured the MP Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC). MPIDC Executive Director Himanshu Prajapati announced the ruling at a meeting at Niryat Bhawan in Pithampur, attended by officials from SEZ Customs, District Industries Centre, MPIDC, and representatives from water supply and maintenance agencies. The government is implementing a single window system to address operational problems. MPIDC action plan for monsoon includes drainage, cleaning, and repair to address water logging. E-office system implementation targeted within 30 days, with improved file tracking. Industrial unit representatives requested attention to water and electricity supply. SRF Ltd. requested new fire stations; Pratibha Syntex requested expedited ESIC hospital work and increased police patrols. Prajapati assured swift resolution of issues.

A petition was filed in the Madhya Pradesh High Court on December 30, 2024 by Indore-based doctors seeking to halt the government's plan to move 337 tonnes of toxic waste from the Union Carbide factory in Bhopal to Pithampur industrial area for incineration. The waste has been at the Union Carbide site since the December 2-3, 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy and was collected in 2005.

Petitioners are the Alumni Association of Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (president Dr. Sanjay Londhe), Dr. S.S. Nayyar and Dr. Vinita Kothari.

Claims in the petition:

• Disposal and incineration in Pithampur will harm residents of both Pithampur and Indore (35 km away)
• Experts warn the waste might increase cancer and breathing issues
• Incineration plant located near Gambhir river, which feeds Yashwant Sagar Dam supplying drinking water to 40% of Indore
• Ongoing disposal at Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited facility in Tarapur village has already polluted soil and water, causing health issues

Petitioners seek formation of a judicial committee headed by a High Court judge to assess health and environmental impacts.

Government response: Packing and loading of waste began December 28. The Jabalpur Bench ordered disposal within four weeks in a December 3 ruling. A 2015 trial with 10 tonnes was conducted. Authorities plan to incinerate in parts with four-layer smoke filtration and two-layer membrane landfill burial for solid residue.

The 2,957-metre Tihi tunnel in the Tihi-Pithampur section of the Indore-Dahod new rail line is nearing completion. As of September 26, 2026, ballastless track work covered 2,551 metres, or about 86%; 406 metres remain. Tunnel lining is complete.

Outside the tunnel, 510 metres of drainage excavation is complete. PCC, reinforcement, raft concrete and first-lift wall concrete work is recorded complete over 308 metres. Of 1,800 cubic metres of backfill concrete, 1,523 cubic metres is complete. In the 23,000-cubic-metre Cut and Cover P-1 section, 22,200 cubic metres of filling is complete.

Reinforcement is complete for 17 of 23 rescue-shaft lifts; formwork and concrete are complete for 16. Work is complete on 15 of 22 staircase-wall lifts and 15 of 22 ventilation-duct-box lifts. All 18 lifts at Portal 2 have completed reinforcement, formwork and concrete.
