Haryana Government Reports Major Violations in Aravali Region
The Haryana Government has informed the National Green Tribunal (NGT) about 545 defilements observed in the Aravali region within the state. These violations encompass a variety of infringements such as felling trees, constructing concrete roads, digging tube wells, and installing swimming pools. One significant violation highlighted is the engagement in construction activities within forest areas without obtaining the necessary clearances from statutory authorities.
State Pollution Control Board: Concerns Highlighted
The State Pollution Control Board, through its documents, has also brought attention to numerous offences happening in the region. Growing apprehensions over the extensive violation of green guidelines, recurrent offences, and the rapidly worsening situation have compelled the NGT to instruct the State Government to submit its plan of action to address the dire circumstances.
Tribunal's Directive
The tribunal has given a deadline of 15 days for the state government to file its response, after which the case will be reviewed.
Common Violations
According to the filed papers, the most prevalent ecological damage is the clearing of trees for non-forestry activities, which is strictly prohibited. Additionally, the construction of permanent roads poses a significant threat to the forest division.
Ground Water Concerns
The construction of tube wells and an increase in the number of submersible pumps are serious concerns, as the region serves as the natural water source for Gurgaon and Faridabad. Overexploitation leading to severe depletion of groundwater will have a substantial impact on the surrounding areas.
Mega Tourism Complex in Mangar
Green activists have raised objections to the Haryana government's plan to permit the establishment of a mega tourism complex in Mangar as part of the development plan for the entire region.
