The Board of Approval (BoA) for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) has cleared a total of 29 proposals to establish SEZs. Among these, three proposals were for the conversion of in-principle approvals into formal approvals. The Board provided recommendations for a total of 23 formal approvals and six in-principle approvals.
Formal Approvals
Prominent formal approvals include four IT/ITeS SEZs in Kerala, proposed by Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited. Additionally, two IT/ITeS/electronic hardware SEZs in Andhra Pradesh received formal approvals, proposed by Godrej Real Estate Private Limited and S2tech.com. Gujarat also saw the approval of two more IT/ITeS SEZs, proposed by Strength Real Estate and Gaurinandan Property Holders.
Other significant formal approvals include two biotechnology SEZs in Andhra Pradesh, proposed by Lahari Infrastructure and Biological E. An SEZ for non-conventional energy, focusing on solar energy equipment/cell, was granted formal approval in Gujarat by Euro Multivision.
Conversion of In-Principle to Formal Approval
An engineering SEZ in Tamil Nadu, proposed by Township Developers India, was converted from in-principle to formal approval.
In-Principle Approvals
Among the in-principle approvals granted, a multi-product SEZ in Madhya Pradesh by Reliable Smart City stood out. Additionally, an MRO SEZ in Tamil Nadu for the airport and aviation sector, proposed by Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Limited, received in-principle nod. A free trade warehousing zone SEZ in Tamil Nadu, proposed by Vikram Logistics and Maritime Services, also received in-principle approval.
These approvals highlight significant advancements in various sectors, with a focus on IT/ITeS, biotechnology, and engineering. The conversion of in-principle approvals to formal ones underscores the progress in establishing critical infrastructure for economic growth.
