Tiruchi Railway Division plans to relay roads in Railway Colony, which are in deplorable condition. Hundreds of residents live in areas including Mela Kalkandarkottai, Railway Colony, Ponmalaipatti, Ambikapuram, Ex-servicemen Colony, and Subramaniapuram. The Railway Colony extends about 400 hectares and is owned by Indian Railways. Roads serve employees of Golden Rock Railway Workshop, passengers at Golden Rock Railway Station, and residents of peripheral areas. Most roads were laid 15-20 years ago with no proper maintenance or repair. Divisional Railway Manager Balak Ram Negi visited the site and reviewed conditions. A list of important roads has been prepared for relay work. Preliminary estimate for relaying important roads: ₹2 crore. Tenders to be floated shortly.
